If you are wondering about the ’s’ in Poole Harbour Trails there will not be just one trail. There are footpaths that walkers can use, on which cyclists are not allowed and bridleways that cyclists can use that walkers might want to avoid and so a cycling route will not necessarily cover all the same ground as a walking route. While a linear walking route round the Harbour has to be divided into several stretches, it should one day be possible to cycle round in a day on a pleasant, dedicated route.

It is already possible to cycle round the Harbour but unfortunately there are sizeable chunks of main road that cannot be avoided and new cycleways need developing. However, some cycling routes that you can use now have been published in the area, which can give you an idea of what should be possible in the future. The Rempstone Ride from Norden to Studland or Shell Bay has been published as a Purbeck Cycleway and the Northport Greenway and Sika Trail are rides taking you out of Wareham and onto a number of cycleways through Wareham Forest.

There are also published rides between Upton House and Poole and some other routes that you might like to try.
